Individual hand decorated porcelain with coloured under glazed patterns
Claire's work is inspired both by the northern Irish landscape and the microscopic. Porcelain bowls are a large feature of the collection created using the process of press moulding. Once a bowl is made Claire sands it to reveal a smooth, blank canvas. Each piece is then decorated by hand using coloured underglazes. This high quality process results in white-coloured porcelain which is the perfect contrast to the busy patterns.
This set of coasters is from Claire's "Lilac" Collection.
The item consists of 4 hand made and decorated coasters, completed with cork feet.
Claire creates each coaster completely by hand, starting off with rolling the clay and allowing it to dry out slowly over the course of a week, to leave a perfectly formed medium ready to be fired.
After being fired in the kiln for up to 12 hours, Claire then starts the painstaking task of applying each dot one at a time by hand, to allow this piece to be truly handmade. Its then off to the kiln again for a further 12 hours before the high gloss glaze is applied. Claire favours this glaze on her pieces as it make the colours pop and allows the piece to capture and reflect light in any room.
When you receive the item you will notice small crazing marks on the piece, this is part of the making process and intentional, adding to the effect of the piece.
Please note that all our products are made by hand and therefore there will be uniqueness and variations in the finish of each product from the original photograph.
