Individual hand decorated porcelain with coloured under glazed patterns
Claire's work is inspired both by the northern Irish landscape and the microscopic. Porcelain bowls are a large feature of the collection created using the process of press moulding. Once a bowl is made Claire sands it to reveal a smooth, blank canvas. Each piece is then decorated by hand using coloured underglazes. This high quality process results in white-coloured porcelain which is the perfect contrast to the busy patterns.
To date, my Tea Cup range has been the most difficult pieces in my collection to make. It took a long time to perfect the firings whilst maintaining my vibrant colour palette.
These will make a lovely gift (to a friend, or yourself!)
As with all of my work- each piece is hand made from start to finish.
Firstly I slip cast the piece using my own moulds (which I made using a plaster lathe to create the shape I wanted). Each piece I cast is thin at the rim so that they are delicate and beautiful - just the way a teacup should be.
This then heads to the kiln where it is fired for 10-12 hours. After that comes the fun bit, I begin to decorate the piece using high quality ceramic glazes with each dot being applied by hand, making each piece truly one of a kind. Then its off to the kiln again for a second firing at which time I apply a high gloss glaze to give the piece a beautiful shine, which will capture the light in any room.
Please note that all our products are made by hand and therefore there will be uniqueness and variations in the finish of each product from the original photograph.
